Disclaimer - I am in no way whatsoever associated with WinMX or Frontcode Technologies, or any company that may have charged you money for the WinMX application, or any other company or persons that may come to mind in relation to WinMX.

Unfortunately, I frequently receive email from users who have in some way paid money for the application WinMX.  As far as I'm aware, any company that may be selling WinMX as some sort of precompiled WinMX package has no right to do so, and I would advise (although I'm certainly no expert whatsoever) that payments to any such company should be retracted as soon as possible.  These companies are, in my own opinion, selling WinMX (and other popular, free software) without the rights to do so, and are therefore nothing more than con-artists.

WinMX is completely free for all to use, and should be downloaded always and only from http://www.winmx.com/.

Just to clear things up, I'm merely a fan/user/whatever of WinMX, having compiled this website in my own free time as a means of passing on information and knowledge gained from the brains at alt.music.mp3.winmx, and from using the application WinMX.  I do this for free, purely out of interest and in my own free time, and that's as far as it goes, so please don't email me with regards to any official 'WinMX' business!

End of disclaimer!

If you want to contact me, feel free to send an email to *temporarily unavailable*.  Any comments, suggestions and advice will be gratefully received and noted.

Please refrain from emailing for help regarding configuration of specific hardware and software, such as Routers, Firewalls, Proxies, etc.  As much as I feel compelled to answer the mail I receive, I really can't respond to each and every one as it just takes too much time!  I recommend to any user needing help regarding anything WinMX should first contact the newsgroup alt.music.mp3.winmx, as there will likely be people with similar hardware, software, and problems in the group that can give much better advice than myself.

Four ways to get good help and advice

1.

The easiest way to view and post to the alt.music.mp3.winmx forum is using Google's WinMX news group cache available here.  Please note that the Google newsgroup cache tends to miss many of the replies made to posts in the actual alt.music.mp3.winmx newsgroup, so it's always best to access the group directly via your ISP's news server if possible, or any other public news server rather than through Google.  See below for details.

2.

The best method to contact the alt.music.mp3.winmx newsgroup is via your Mail & News client, such as Outlook Express.  You might need to configure the client with your ISP's news server details though to receive the newsgroups.  This should be fairly straightforward using Outlook Express with the following procedure...

1.  Open Outlook Express

2.  Go to > Tools > Accounts.

3.  Click > Add > News.

4.  Enter a nick name you'd like to use.

5.  Enter an e-mail address (this is not essential, enter a bogus address or junk e-mail address if possible always).

6.  Next you'll need to enter your ISP news server details, which are usually in the format 'news.isp.com', eg, 'news.ntlworld.com', 'news.bti.com', etc.

7.  Once the news server has been added you'll need to refresh the current list of available news groups from the news server, Outlook Express should automatically ask if you want to do this after creating the above account.  When the list has finished being downloaded simply locate and double-click the alt.music.mp3.winmx newsgroup to subscribe to it.

Note that not all ISP's have a news server available, in which case you'll need to locate a list of public news servers to use.

3.  Another good site is the WinMXCommunity.com web forum operated by Vulpes.  Here you can read questions and answers posted by other WinMX users, and hopefully get your own questions answered.

4. Good advice can be found in the built in WinMX decentralised chat rooms feature, as there are usually a few 'Help & Advice' type channels available.  Be absolutely sure to read the WinMX 'Warning' before entering the chat rooms though!  You have been warned. =)
